TORONTO, March 2, 2023-At its Annual General Meeting, the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) presented REALTOR® Ray Ferris with its Cardarelli Legacy Award.
This recognition is reserved for a member that has demonstrated leadership, professionalism and commitment to organized real estate; made a significant contribution as a dedicated volunteer in organized real estate through diverse roles at their local, provincial or national association; has contributed passionately to the area of government relations to bring a lasting benefit to the membership and the real estate profession; and is held in high regard and respect by peers.
Ray was President of the Simcoe & District Real Estate Board in 2009 and 2010. In 2016, he was elected by his peers from across the province to serve as President of the OREA.
Ray’s record of strong leadership and commitment to positive change as OREA President and 6 years on the Board resulted in OREA becoming a much more powerful and effective advocacy organization with a greater focus on supporting the front-line REALTOR® and being Ontario’s leading champion of the value of homeownership.
He demanded better REALTOR® education including more practical training, ethics and far more challenging curriculum and testing standards.
As OREA President, Ray helped convince the Government of Ontario to modernize real estate legislation and raise the bar on professionalism. He is the Chair of OREA’s Trust in Real Estate Services Act (TRESA) Regulations Task Force, new real estate legislation that will be proclaimed on April 1.
“I’m honoured to receive this very special award.” said Ferris. “All Ontarians should have the opportunity to achieve the Canadian Dream to own a home. I’ve always been committed to working with government to make home ownership more affordable for Ontarians.”
Ray said during his acceptance speech “To receive this award named for a real estate icon like Ettore is a true honour.”
